Time for responsible travelling
At Time to Stay properties, sustainability has been a core value since the very beginning of our operations.
Today, sustainability comes with a wide range of expectations and requirements. At Time to Stay, we strive to meet these demands and stay up to date on sustainability matters.
For us, sustainability is part of our everyday actions, and we hope our guests share this perspective with us.
Learn more below about what sustainability means to us.

1. TIME TO STAY KIND
TOWARDS THE PLANET AND PEOPLE <3
We believe life feels lighter when kindness toward the planet and others becomes second nature. Here, even a solo traveler belongs to a more thoughtful community.
We are committed to fostering equality by providing a safe space for everyone. Treating each person with love, respect, and fairness is at the core of who we are.
BE YOURSELF – YOU’RE ALWAYS WELCOME HERE
2. Time to stay ekological
- Our properties are small and spread across Jyväskylä. This allows us to maintain consistent quality while avoiding the impacts of mass tourism.
- In our common areas, we use Mundus Aer air purifiers, and sometimes old solutions prove to be the best—our spaces are also filled with plenty of greenery to help purify indoor air.
- Our hostel is located in the center of Jyväskylä, making it convenient to reach by public transportation. If you’re traveling by car, we also offer four parking spaces and electric car charging.
- You can easily rent a bicycle from our partner located just down the same street.
- We recycle waste and encourage our guests to do the same. Recycling stations in the hallway and kitchen make sorting waste simple and straightforward.
- For cleaning, we use environmentally friendly detergents. This extends to the eco-friendly soaps provided in our showers and bathrooms, as well as the hand towels and toilet paper we supply.
- We have our bed linens and towels washed locally by a laundry service that uses environmentally friendly detergents.
- Our water fixtures are designed to save water, and we encourage guests to be mindful of their water use by avoiding unnecessary consumption.
- The electricity we use is green energy from Väre, and all our lighting is equipped with LED bulbs. We also guide our guests to turn off the lights when leaving a room. To support this, the lighting in showers, restrooms, and common areas is motion-activated.
- We follow a responsible procurement policy, ensuring that all purchases are checked for sustainability and compliance with Green Key certification standards.

3. Time to stay social and part of local communities
- The construction and renovation work for the hostel has been carried out either by ourselves or by local small business owners.
- All design work has been done in-house.
- The wall and ceiling art throughout the hostel is the crafted by the local Huonosti Maalatut Seinät collective.
- Our laundry services are sourced from a local provider.
- The common areas are cleaned daily to ensure they stay tidy and welcoming for longer.
4. Time to embrace
local culture
- We honor local culture with ceiling paintings in the lounge that highlight notable achievements of our city.
- We recycle old, retired hotel furniture. Many of our furnishings, mirrors, and lamp bases are repurposed and given a second life.
- Our brochure rack features a selection of information about Jyväskylä and its surrounding areas, along with recommendations for local restaurants.
- Our library and game corner are available for guests to enjoy. All books and games have been donated, and guests are welcome to borrow or exchange books as they wish.

5. Time is money
- Our pricing remains affordable, following a self-service hostel concept. Our hostel is keyless, and guests can access the premises using a code. Staff is available on-site during the mornings, and at other times, we are reachable by phone—you can always call or message us.
- We collaborate with other local businesses, and our notice board keeps guests informed about upcoming events.
- We actively monitor guest satisfaction and respond promptly to feedback through various channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Booking.com, Google, and our own communication platforms.
- All our locations use eco-friendly electricity, certified with guarantees of origin, produced from water, wind, and bioenergy sources.
We welcome all feedback with an open arms
